The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

Werenski makes some sense. We get him for 2 years. They get Knies for 5. They have a tough time attracting and retaining talent. We take the risk that Werenski fucks off in 2 years. Or we win a lot and he stays.

Werenski’s got a full NMC, so he’d only get traded here if he wants to play here. Which hopefully would bode well for our chances of re-signing him.

We are actually deep on D right now regardless of what some might say, and very light on forwards, even with McKenna coming.

We just got what looks like a #1D for free. We could go get Andersson and bump a lesser guy, for free again.

If we're getting a true 1C for him, like Clark for Sundin, where we're actually getting the younger guy, and not someone 5-6 years older, okay, I can understand that.

If we're trading him for some 28 year old dman, when we are fully stocked at the position, even if the dman would be the presumptive #1, the improvement on the backend could never justify the loss of Knies up front.

I have to believe Chayka is smart enough to understand and would only ever listen to anything if it's a redux of the Sundin trade.
