The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

I don't mind trading Knies, and deep down Chayka probably doesn't either (how are Knies' analytics?)

but it better be goddamn good. he's got high value.

Well, that's kind of the thing. They're good, but not omg he's a fucking stud good. Which is part of the reason I think Chayka is, and should be exploring this. If you can find one GM who looks at a picture of him shirtless and reacts like LoF, you're going to get value far in excess of what he actually brings on the ice.

He’s fucking stud good. You’ve wanted to trade him since before he put on the jersey.

Because I always felt the upside was limited to the type of player we've seen so far, and I've always considered power forward types over rated by the same type of people who scream "playoff hockey" and "Long D" when we see teams rewarded for adding skill over and over and over again.

Maybe I'll end up on wrong on him and he starts putting up ~80 point seasons, maybe I'm not and he's a "valuable 30/60 type" as I've said before. I'm open to the possibility of it. But if we can turn a 60 point winger into a #1 defender, or #1C, you have to do it.

Small market teams that can't sign guys in free agency should be drooling over Knies, good contract, 5 years, no trade clauses until 2030.
Winnipeg, Ottawa, Columbus, Seattle, Utah, Edmonton, Calgary, Nashville should all be candidates.

May have been posted earlier but good on Chayka for aiming high on Knies

2. The Blackhawks did kick the tires on the top-six forwards available. The Toronto Maple Leafs’ asking price for Matthew Knies was believed to be the No. 4 pick and one of the Blackhawks’ top players. Not sure who exactly the Leafs asked for, but my assumption is Frank Nazar or Anton Frondell. At that point, the Blackhawks are probably losing more than they’re getting.
