Read a story yesterday where Celebrini said he left money on the table to allow cap flexibility fke the team. If San Jose and Anaheim had any advantage over us in prospects it is lost in salary structure.
 
Yes but where will that manifest itself? With rising caps the ability to leverage decreases. UFA seems the likeliest avenue.

Valid point. I also wonder about getting close to the cap when we know the next wave of contracts for some of these guys will definitely shoot up (like some folks renewing their mortgage this year after getting super low rates during the pandemic.)

I think… maybe… leverage might come when a group of teams realize they need to purge and rebuild. Vancouver is there, Calgary too. But there should be 4 or 5 more teams. Maybe we see the first signs at US Thanksgiving?

Also, it appears Colorado, Minnesota and San Jose are choosing to price in the rising cap now. So, they are kinda using up some of that space - helps to reduce their flex. And then there are the Ducks. lol

Need to trade with teams that have players with term on existing contracts. Teams that need roster changes

Krieder could be the ideal short term fix while waiting for market to potentially open up next summer as I expect teams position themselves well in advance for expansion draft

Question is will Ana even make Kreider available & would player be willing to waive for Mtl?

Waiting for a team willing to trade a proven top-6 asset in the cores age group - won’t be easy in a market with no rebuilding teams for the foreseeable future
