Even if he somehow stays, how can he try to get every penny he can from his hometown organization who did everything they could to develop him and put him into a position to succeed? We’re trying to end a 60 year Cup drought, why do you need to squeeze everything you can out of the org?
Ovechkin was 32 when he won the Stanley Cup. I’m good with even 1 Cup during this era. If we have to wait like Caps fans, it’s not so bad.
Everyone said Marner was gone last offseason as well. Treliving has said he wants him here, I’m thinking there’s a better chance he stays than leaves.
It’s been longer than I’d like as well. But expecting a Cup this season after only advancing past the first round once in past years is unrealistic IMO. You don’t go from A ball to the big leagues.
Sometimes you need to take steps and be satisfied with progress. Of course we all would love a Cup now, but do you really think this group is ready for that? I’ll take a conference finals appearance at this point, and hopefully we get even more.
