There is a cap. Evaluating players based on how much they make is kinda important.

No it won’t. Salary’s are going up but every team is not to going to have 3 of their highest paid forwards in the league, and the two highest paid wingers. Matthews makes 13 now, Marner will get 13+, their getting the inflation too.

We had 3 forwards making $11 mill for 6 of the last 7 years. Last year was the only year with 4. 3 didn’t work either.

Paying Marner is the same thing as paying Tavares. Nylander only made top money one year. Paying 3 forwards top 10 cap hits doesn’t work. We know this.

It would be different if we didn’t have Nylander signed, but having 3 top 10 cap hit forwards has already prevented us from building the depth needed to overcome the fact that none of these guys score in big games for 7 years. The need a fresh start. Core 4 is dead.

The number of games Kadri was suspended relative to what he did and the other suspensions at the time were a joke. Both suspensions were also defending teammates. Leafs should have had his back.

No he wasn't. Is Ekblad the wrong shade of playoff intense for the Panthers? Should the Lightning trade Hagel? Everyone loves gritty players that play on the edge.

Kadri trade was horrible. Period. He was a really good, home grown 2C, that is a gritty playoff type, on a bargain contract and we gave him away for nothing.

No doubt Matthews and Marner being outperformed by everyone else is a big reason we never win. There is no reason they shouldn't be at the top of that list with McDavid, Mackinnon, Rantanen, Daraisaitl, Eichel, Aho, Point, Kucherov. But signing Tavares killed the dream. Without that one move...

There are worse guys to overpay than a 28 year old 2C that is a career 60 point player in the playoffs (25th in playoff scoring since 2016).
