“Incident” at Pickering nuclear plant

Well, that’s good news.

But that’s a hell of a mistake. Someone’s getting fired.
 
That plant should have been mothballed decades ago, in any event. IIRC, it has the largest population proximity of any nuclear plant in the world.
 
I live right down the street from the plant. I got so many messages this morning. People were taking their pills to save them from nuclear exposure. Everyone in the 10 K radius gets them.
Terrible mistake.

Be hard pressed to build something anywhere that isn't close to a fault line. The SGL region is really quiet geologically. There has been like 3 4.5-5.0 quakes in the region (all of them with epicentres a 100Km or more south of pickering) since they started measuring 100 years ago. In the last 30 years, apparently there has only been 2 quakes above 2.5 and both were under 3.0

I'd be way more worried about human incompetence causing an issue than an earthquake.

All joking aside, you bet your ass I was googling Chernobyl fall out area. Yikes. Apparently a minor “event” happened on Friday too but the reactions to the alert are a thing of beauty. Complaining why they’re being bothered etc. people are so lost sometimes.

Yep, sat there with my coffee this morning looking through safe zone information on the internet and google mapping my distance (38.8km) from the pickering plant.

Fukushima had a 30km evacuation zone. 20km mandatory, 10km voluntary. But regardless, I already keep a bug out bag. That shit will be getting checked within the next few days.
