1st Rnd '25 Playoffs: The Battle of Ontario V - More of the Same - LFG!

I’m sure the boys in blue will ceremoniously wait until 7:30-8 to show up. Gah. I’m so fucking over this. They looked so great the first three games. Puck possession. Stripping pucks. No dump and chase. It’s like the failed 4 minute penalty created a trauma response and they are now who they’ve been the in ghosts of playoffs past. Ick.
 
Heading back to BLC tomorrow on "Damntrak," notoriously poor for consistent Wi-Fi availability. Actually hoping the fucker runs late. 🤣
 
No pressure but if you want to avoid a game 7, then game 6 is what we call a "must win". I guess I should have said this before game 5, but if you can't handle the pressure of a game 5 - games 6 and 7 are exponentially worse guys.

I cannot convince myself that they will win it tomorrow and a Saturday night HNIC never seems to bode well for the Leafs vs Ottawa. Please win tomorrow.
 
Btw...we probably should have rested Stolarz when we had the chance. I love the guy, but there's a reason he's 31 and has never been a starter.

The tandem worked all fucking year and elite goaltending was probably the single biggest reason we finally won our division and we abandon it fucking immediately in the playoffs. We're a chronically stupid organization.

I think the Leafs core 4 issues can be summed up in one word - or the lack thereof - Competitiveness - they simply lack the natural drive to want to win at all costs. To excel beyond their comfort zones. I guess you could simply say these are not alpha males. That is the problem.

I mean, I do have to point out that the whole concept of the “alpha male” is proven horseshit derived from erroneous scientific conclusions drawn by one dude who observed a bunch of wolves in captivity.

But yeah, it is pretty clear that the almost psychotic competitive drive that a lot of other championship-winning star players have is completely absent in Matthews, Marner & Nylander.

When one of them effortlessly racks up five points against a punching-bag opponent during the dog days of the regular season, that is them at their absolute peak. They have no extra gear beyond that for when the games and opponents become tougher and more meaningful.
