2014 NHL Draft Thread

People are high on Richie because of his untapped potential. He's not in great shape though (scouts think opposed to most prospects he has to lose weight), and doesn't have a consistent work ethic on the ice. Sure he could be the next Smyth or Hartnell, but he sure reminds be a lot of Steve Bernier coming out. IMO if you are passing on guys with high end skill like Ehlers, Fabbri, Nylander, Virtanen etc. and drafting a guy based on size and truculence, he better work his ass off.

I don't know why even is all over Fabbri for his size. 5'10" 165 is not what I would consider small.

The guy has enough time to put on a few lbs and hold his own in the show.

If he is good as some say and he is dropping merely because of his size then I hope the Leafs take him

Was just taking a look at this. Its the 2009 behind the draft. At about 1:30 in Burke talks about trading up from 7 to 2 and Tampa said they were willing to do it if we gave them Schenn. Burke said no way, Schenn is a the future captain of the Leafs.

As much as I love Kadri and JVR I'd much rather have Hedman or Duchene.

Earlier you hear Burke talk about how to play the way the Leafs want to you need pick and shovel men and he wants to get those guys in the draft. Kenny Ryan, Jamie Devane, Tyler Biggs etc. later and we still don't have any of that and the game has changed to the point where if you don't have skill you really can't play.

Burke's emphasis on truculence really set this organization back. He never adapted to the new NHL.

And yet this is really a philosophy that our Director of Scouting seems to still agree with/defend. So how much will really change?

Thinking Leafs will opt for size up front if they stay at No. 8, either Jake Virtanen, Brendan Perlini or if Ritchie, DalColle drop down.

Just speculation.

This is literally the exact same conversation I had two years ago. "They won't take Rielly, they'll take Reinhart or Trouba."

Every single time this regime has picked in the top 10 they've avoided size and taken guys with high end skill. There is no reason to think they would do something different this time.

I’ve finally finished and Its my biggest draft preview yet….. now with over 100 scouting reports.

75 full reports (800 words or so)
26 smaller reports (100 words or so each)
2 honourable mentions (not a scouting report but a compilation of views on the net).
2 round mock draft.
and a statistical analysis of the top 10

Here is the full list

I honestly believe this is the best free guide you can get on the internet

Sweet. Looks good. Helpful for us guys who participate in dynasty leagues. :D

Like the mock. Nylander is gone and we take Ehlers. The next guy who goes is Virtanen. That's my order of preference for us.
