Didn't Gil Stein have a short stint as President between those two? Checks ... yup, he did. Which I honestly only remember thanks to Stien's wonderful book on the NHL's turbulent 90s. That was called ... I think ... Power Plays and is a great read for those interested in the business side of the NHL.

Yeah ... that section of financial dominos was just waiting to fall until after the Sky acquisition was settled. Fox's "loss" on that front combined with their Disney cash frees up liquidity to go cobble together a continuing presence in the American regional sports market. It may not be as glamorous as the glittery national stuff, but there's good money to made in those regional networks if they are managed correctly. And Fox already plays that game pretty well. ABC/Disney/ESPN and Comcast/NBC/Universal are now debt leveraged pretty heavily, while what's left of Fox is cash rich. They can call their shots in what's left of the various markets without having to commit huge resources to insanely expensive stuff like building streaming services and operating major motion picture studios.

One more thing to keep an eye on, speaking of streaming services ... I've read a couple of articles speculating that Fox might just end up controlling Hulu after the dust settles on Disney's new service next year. Everybody seems to assume that Disney will buy out Comcast and consolidate control of that asset, but they seem to forget that Disney is already hip deep in creating their own competing service. Hulu will probably either die or be reborn as something completely different.
