2019-Whenever Misc. Grab Bag Thread

Seems like a lot of the same people that bitched and moaned about having to deal with other people’s cigarette smoke are all for legalization of weed.
And a lot of people that said cigs are just fine and quitcherbitchin are all up in arms on weed.

seems like no matter what one side decides is good the other side says no. I’m both directions.

it would be funny if it wasn’t so tragic. I guess China, Iran, N Korea probably think it’s funny as heck.

ps I realize I’m arguing with myself.
Pps I don’t know what I think about weed legalization.

Keep in mind ... the Cherokee are set to market their own marijuana in their own nation, where they have long ago relaxed enforcement of any possession laws. The possession laws in surrounding areas still are in force, so I could see some potential friction with the NC counties that border QB. I mean, there aren't many and it's one of the lower population regions of NC so stakes are relatively low ... still, you just know you're gonna get some interesting politicking in sheriff races in the region.
kinda funny too that many of the good old boys around those parts have their own crop of weed.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that. This thing were we all feel like we have to stake out a position on everything is kind of silly. VERY few specific people could possibly have a legitimate reason to care what I think about legalizing weed, at the end of the day. Nor does it really matter until somebody asks me to vote on it.

In that specific part of NC, most of those good old boys were Cherokee anyway. If you're in that business, having minimal chance of law enforcement interventions is a powerful attraction.

Nor has any other use!
If the stick broke where the shaft transitioned to the blade, one of my daughter’s old coaches would invert the stick and put a replacement blade in the top of the shaft. In those days, you could buy a carbon fiber shaft and a wood blade separately.

I use shafts of hockey sticks with broken blades as hanger poles in the closet where I keep hockey sweaters, my turkey vest, and heavy coats. So, they're not totally useless....just real limited in function.

A buddy uses them to hang his weed to dry. So, there's that too.

Could use them in the garden also.

Seems kinda overdone. At our coast (river) - house for years I raised oysters in cages but it wasn't easy being in Raleigh most of the time. As we are likely going to be here more I may get back into it. Mighty nice having fresh oysters for th' pluckin'. Clams didn't work out but lots of mussels on the rock and concrete seawall. But broken hockey sticks...? In Japan they hang ropes from rafts - we are too shallow for that.

They have oyster cages hanging from floating docks & platforms in Indonesia, but most of them are for growing pearls. When the cages get damaged, they just toss them out in deeper water. It totally makes the bottom look like an underwater junkyard, but it provides great habitat for all kinds of creatures.

Some bizarre scorelines across the sports universe this weekend. The Miami Dolphins hung 70 on the Broncos, the most scored in the NFL since 1966 and the 3rd most ever. In the English Premier League, Sheffield United surrendered 8 goals at home to Newcastle United. In NHL pre-season action, Calgary beat Vancouver 10-0. The league has a rule about having at least 8 “veteran” players in the lineup for pre-season games, did the Canucks leave all their NHL players in Vancouver? In NCAA football, Miami, Duke, UNC, Oregon, Tennessee, Georgia and USC all went for more than 40 points. Oregon, USC and UNC were all conference games too.

Next Saturday, for the first time ever, College Game Day will be in Durham as Duke hosts Notre Dame. The hoops version of Game Day has been there 12 times, more than any other school. Duke was one of 7 Power 5 schools that had never hosted Game Day; Rutgers, Maryland, UVa, California, Illinois and Syracuse are the others.
