To be fair on the Grealish subject ... he does NOT take penalties for Villa and never really has. Pretty sure he'd be the third or fourth option on his freaking club team ... and he's their captain. I don't know why people are harping on up that, because it would have been just as dumb as what actually happened to put a guy who hasn't taken a PK in like 2 years in that first 5.
Bottom line ... putting a teenager in the five slot was really asking a lot, no matter who the guy is. Sterling and Kane were the two guys up front that Southgate stuck with through the whole tournament regardless of what else he moved around. The fact that he held one of them out of the penalties is difficult to explain. As was busting your butt to get Sancho on the field at the last second and then not selecting the guy. What was the point of that, exactly?
