2021-22 Season Hurricanes Misc. Thread

6 players and 1 staff, so far. So I guess the magic number isn’t 8 for postponements.
Like everything else in the NHL, the magic number is whatever they decide it is on a given day. Based on what? God knows, but I don't ... humidity, how clear the cell phone reception is that day, Daly's blood pressure, social media followings ... who could possibly know what impacts the thinking at Club Dimwit aka the NHL offices.

Sometime this league makes freaking NASCAR look like they have a firm handle on their operating procedures

All valid points. Pretty much everybody involved in pro sports admin needs to tighten the heck up.

Sebastian Aho was named NHL 2nd Star of the week. He had 5 goals, 2 assists in 3 games. Maybe if he had been able to play last night, he would have been 1st Star, instead that was…Thatcher Demko.

When I think of the NHL Head Offices...AKA Club Dimwit, I always think of this gif...

The Canes flight to Minnesota hasn’t left Vancouver yet. It was scheduled for 9 am PST, now scheduled for 1 pm PST with an arrival time of almost 6 pm CST. No word on what the delay is.

and some are worried about them going to China when, in fact, it is much more likely they will catch it here or in Canada. Let’s not act like we are doing something miraculous over here lol

Hope nobody flunked a test on their way out of town.

We absolutely are not. But we’re not forcing people into a 3 to 5 week quarantine either. IMO, that’s the biggest obstacle, not a positive test but the length of time to clear.

Think about it. If a player tests positive near the end of the tournament, he’s gonna be gone for a long time. The tournament starts on February 9. Maybe the teams fly in no later than February 7. It ends on the 20th. If a player tests positive in the medal round and is quarantined for even 3 weeks, that takes him out for 8 games, on the Canes schedule. Add on another 2 weeks and that’s another 7 games. Even if they test positive right off the bat, there will be games missed during a 3 week quarantine. If I’m a player on a contending team, I’m thinking long and hard about participating.

I don’t think that’s the concern. It’s more getting there and getting back and being there with all the other people from all over etc. it barely seems like they have a workable plan for an NHL season with fans let alone an international tourney on the other side of the world in a country that may or not decide to send groups into Taiwan. While the CDC is suggesting people require their family members show proof of vaccination before family Christmas gatherings.

I mean what could go wrong?

Now scheduled for 4:10 pm PST, arriving at 9pm CST. Splendid.

Max Lajoie was re-assigned to Chicago. Chatfield lives to fight another day. Assuming any of them can actually leave Vancouver.

Aho, Jarvis and a member of the training staff are in Covid protocol and will remain in Vancouver.
