Testing doesn't take that long. If he does indeed have a torn ACL, an MRI will show it.

The NFL, which has players that tear their ACLs every week, announce it the day after at the very latest.
Of course they're bullshitting. It's part of hockey culture because you can't ever reveal what the actual injury is because...reasons.

I had ACL reconstruction on my right knee (hockey injury), no MCL or meniscus damage. I re-injured same knee a few years later in a freak accident.

Same surgeon said MRI shows a complete ACL tear, I went in for a 2nd reconstruction, I had asked for general anesthesia, when I woke up surgeon told me ACL was in perfect condition when he scoped the knee, and all he needed to do was remove scar tissue, and rework meniscus, there was no need for a 2nd ACL reconstruction

I’m no pro athlete, but stuff happens - MRI isn’t always conclusive
