2024-25 Canes Miscellaneous Thread

Anybody heard anything on the surplus squad from Chicago? I'd expect Nadeau, Morrow and one of the goalies to head to Raleigh at a minimum.

Nothing on theahl.com website resembling a transaction between the Canes and Chicago. I haven't seen anything from the Canes.

Certainly now that Chicago is done the Canes should be moving Spencer Martin into that #3 goalie spot and thanking Ruslan Khazheyev for getting dressed and sitting in the locker room on Sunday after Freddie went down. That will happen before tomorrow night's game if Freddie isn't ok enough to be the backup.

There are some rules having to do with the number of players on your playoff roster who were regular recalls after the trade deadline (aka not emergency recalls) and limits to how many such players you can keep on your playoff roster at the same time. I assume the Canes have those all covered, but don't expect them to recall the entire Chicago roster. ALmost certainly Spencer Martin, PROBABLY Bradley Nadeau, MAYBE a DMan.

The Canes are signing a free agent goalie from Russia. He’s been playing for Ak-Bar Kazan as their backup, he played 30 games this last season and 34 in 2022-23. He must have been injured in 2023-24, he only played 12 games combined between the KHL and VHL

Amir Miftakhov was a 6th round pick of Tampa back in 2020. He signed a 3 year entry level deal starting in the 2021-22 season but his contract was terminated (mutual) after he spent the 2021-22 season in the AHL and ECHL. That made him an NHL UFA (unlike some of the Canes Russian draft picks who will be on our reserve list forever unless the Canes need reserve list room down the road).

Fun Fact: My wife is from Kazan and I have an Ak Bars jersey at home.

BTW, with Martin having been promoted and magically appearing the same day, it's pretty obvious that some of the Wolves crew is here in Raleigh even if not on the official roster.

Outstanding news following last night's events! Dude may not have the top-end he used to have (if he did, we wouldn't get this deal) but still a plus player in all zones and a frequent difference maker when it counts
During the game last night, my daughter texted me and asked how it was possible that he had won the Hart, since he has concrete hands. I reminded her that it was 7 years ago and the Hart is for MVP and not scoring. Her response, “whatever, his stick handling has been so bad today”.
