2024-25 Canes Miscellaneous Thread

Winnipeg sure ain't winning tonight, so I guess Monday it is. Lord have mercy, the Hurricanes are going to get killed 12-0 in that game.

Why? Washington has exactly one less day off and it's not like a longer break favors either side in any specific way. I think it's more accurate to say that Game 1 will be a bit clunky with both sides having accumulated a fair amount of rust. The first team to find their legs probably gets a gift in that one. No reason that can't be the Canes.

Lenovo Center booked Fri May 9 and Sun May 11 thru Tue May 13 (two Pearl Jam concerts Sun and Tue).

So does the league do May 6, May 8, May 10 and then May 14? Its a big deal to tear down the concert set and have to rebuild it to allow for a Mon May 12 game.

Either that or make PJ pack their shit back up in between their shows to play Game 4 on the 12th.... which I'm guessing would have been one of those things PJ negotiated up front to not be required of them?

I heard rumblings that they might tear down the stage after the first concert and then set it all back up after the Canes play Monday the 12th. The bigger question is, are the Canes not the primary tenant this time of year with the playoffs not really a foregone conclusion with this team??? Who the hell is blocking out the building for that many dates for concerts when you know you have a decent playoff bound hockey team the first few weeks of May? Just seems like poor planning when you have a playoff type club as opposed to a bottom feeder that is bounced in early April…

You guys know who operates the building and thus makes schedule decisions ... right? It's the Canes. Well, their parent company at least. So ...
Complain if it makes you feel better but a full building schedule benefits the team because it benefits the bottom line.

If you want something legitimately disturbing to complain about while you wait for Game 1 ... Weekes is apparently leaking that the Canes are close to extending Freddie Andersen's contract.

Expletives deleted ... lots of them.

Then again the goalie market this summer sucks which not only means there aren't good UFA options, but also that trade values for guys under contract are dramatically inflated

While I was hoping for something else, I don't mind this 1-yr extension IF the cost is reasonable and they are still searching for a #1. With plenty of room under the cap, Freddie isn't a terrible insurance policy. Of course, a perennial hurt Freddie does nothing for us. And knowing how hurt he's likely to be, I may have just talked my way out of supporting my first sentence!

In a vacuum, I'm fine with bringing Freddie back for a 1 year deal. Kooch is also signed for another year though, and I think it's patently bonkers to run back the same battery and expect different results. So, maybe ... maybe(!) ... they'll go find a more reliable platoon mate for Freddie and at least one different option as the 3rd guy since we seem to have wrung the last of Martin's professional career out of the guy. Bottom line, as a pro personnel department, if you look at the last two years in net and say "gimme more of that" then I have to question your professionalism.

But if they show up in camp with Freddie, Koochie and some rando for a 3rd option, then I'm NOT going to take it well.
