2024-25 Hurricanes Prospects and Minors Thread

Honestly, I think there's just a lot of discontent out there that Sevech has never really lived up to his billing as a draft pick. In fact, he hasn't really lived up to the promise he teased as a rookie either. He's a quality player and has been a pretty consistent second tier producer for Carolina since he's gotten here, but when they got him in the lottery there was talk of him being a huge impact, star player along the lines of what Mikko Rantanen has been in his career, and Svech hasn't even sniffed that level of production.

I get it. A lot of people got VERY invested in Svech being a big time star player and he's developed into something less than that. What I don't care for is the exaggeration of his negative traits and when people aren't honest in judging him in periods when he's obviously been playing hurt. That kind of stuff has really piled up over the years, but the bigger issue almost always boils down to "he just isn't the player I thought he'd be" or "he isn't the player we were promised" ... as if any of that stuff is a given.

Bradly Nadeau scored his 30th goal on Saturday. He’s only the 3rd teenager to hit 30 in the AHL in the last 50 years. And he really dint start scoring until after the World Juniors.
56 points in 63 games and he’s -20. That’s Kovalchukian!

Chicago Wolves last week:

Apr 12 @Milwaukee L 5-3 Martin with the loss. Suzuki, Brind'Amour and Nadeau with the Goals
Apr 13 Texas L 3-1 Tokarski with the loss. Robidas with the goal

See the prospect tracker above for details on Joel Nystrom, who is playing for Chicago now.

Chicago remains 2 points behind Grand Rapids for 3rd in the Central conference...which would allow them to avoid the 4/5 play in round with Rockford. So these last 3 games are huge for Chicago.

Grand Rapids plays @Rockford (5th place) twice and @Iowa (6th place) for their final 3 games.

3 final regular season Games this week for Chicago.... @Iowa Wed, @Milwaukee Fri, v. Rockford Sat

Milwaukee is the best team in the division, so Chicago technically has the tougher schedule. Given how inept the Wolves have looked against 'good' teams, it looks likely they will have to play Rockford in the play-in series.

Is Badinka any good? Is he projected to be an NHL’er or what. I really need to start paying attention to these kids…..sigh
He was the Canes first pick in the 2024 Draft, they had traded their first (27th overall) for the 34th and 50th, which they used on Nikita Artamonov. As an 18 year old, he played in the top Swedish league. The Canes signed him a few weeks after the draft and loaned him back to Malmo in Sweden for the season. He’s not an offensive threat, he has 9 points in 82 games across 2 seasons. But he’s big, 6’3” and a right shot. In January, Scott Wheeler from The Athletic ranked him as the Canes 5th best prospect behind Morrow, Nadeau, Artamonov and Unger-Sorum

Thanks Andy. I remember the draft information (that he was our first round pick), I just hadn’t kept up with any scouting reports, etc…. Thanks for the info. Can you link which site/sites you think are the best for youth and minor league scouting? Is there one or multiple you think are worth the read? Thanks again

Could resident Caniac Roy Cooper make a couple of calls to some of his old buddies in the Federal Government and see if that visa could be nudged along a bit quicker??? The only reason I mention it is because those politician Bat Phones have important people on speed dial when they need a favor or two...
