2024-25 NHL Misc. Thread

If the playoffs were to begin today, the two most intriguing match-ups (outside of Carolina vs whomever, of course) are Colorado v Dallas and Tampa Bay v Florida. Both should be fun to watch.
Colorado vs Dallas will be an epic series but a shame that one of those two teams will be out early...get us back to the 1 vs 8 seeding please.

The old 1-8 with division winners getting 1 & 2 would currently result in 3-DAL/6-EDM and 4-COL/5-LA 1st round series in the West (and the other 6 series the same as current wildcard format-- 1-WPG/8-MIN, 2-VGK/7-STL, 3-CAR/6-NJ, 4-TB/5-FLA, 1-WAS/8-MON, 2-TOR/7-OTT)... not much different, either way 2 really good teams in the West are going home within 2 weeks.

At least with the 1-8 seeding, you'd avoid crap like playing the same danged team in the 1st round all the time. Poor LA might be up for playing somebody other than the Oilers. I know the league office thinks that's a feature and that it builds rivalries, but it isn't and it doesn't.

Disagree on the latter. You don’t think there was more to the Canes/Rangers games over the last few years because of the playoff matchups? I do. Now, whether that’s worth the cost is another question. Personally I don’t mind the current system. Don’t we have 1v8 and 2v7 already? So the only difference would be the 3/6 and 4/5 matchups. If we changed people would just start complaining about that new system in a few years anyway.

Now, if changing the system will shut up the “we need a play-in round” crowd for a few year then I’m all for it.

Not really, no. That rivalry bumped up a bit because they were dueling for the Division crown over multiple years, but are the Canes the Rangers rivals? No. And will whatever friction they've built with NYR over the last few years last through a period when one or the other isn't in the mix? Not a chance. These things cannot be artificially created and even if circumstances do get one going, it won't last if it's not organic.

And yeah, it's those middle matchups that are getting artificially stale and unbalanced. Seeing as how that's half the first round, I think it's important enough to fix.

Yeesh! Not exactly the time of the season you want shit like this going on with the team.
They were in the Wild Card hunt but have lost 6 in a row, getting the loser point in the first 2 before losing their last 4 in regulation. And they’ve given up 20 goals in the last 4, including 6 to the Canes on Sunday.

Duclair got hurt pretty early in the season, and from what little I've seen he's been very perimeter oriented since coming back. He's a guy who needs to be pressing play and getting to the middle where he can use that tight spaces talent to shake up a defense. Makes you wonder if he's not 100%, and he's absolutely the kind of guy who doesn't really bring it when he's not fully healthy. That's been an issue with him at previous stops. Just in general he seems like a terrible fit for Roy's style, and yeah ... it's kind of surprising it took this long for something to boil over.
