2024-25 NHL Misc. Thread

Another goalie off the free agency market. Vegas extended Adin Hill, 6 years/$6.25 million AAV.

84 games? Most pro leagues are already way too long, with the NFL getting closer to that edge.

I don't know about that, though. Look at how bad the first few weeks of NFL action is now that they've removed a few preseason games.

To me, the ideal number is 76 games--four each against the seven other teams in your division and two each against the other 24 teams. Teams could make up same of the lost revenue from the six additional games by adding a best-of-three play-in round that would expand the playoff pool from 16 to 20 teams.

If that's a non-starter, then 84 games would also produce a good balance, with 4 games each against the seven other teams in your division, three each against the eight teams in the other division in your conference, and two each against the 16 teams in the other conference.

A play in round guarantees that you’ll have teams with losing records in the playoffs. On what planet did those teams earn the right to play for the trophy? Ridiculous.

Now that there are 32 teams, maybe there should be an "upper tier" playoff where the top 16 teams play and eliminate each other until there is one team left, and then the "bottom tier" of 16 play each other until there is one team left, and then those two teams play for the Cup. In addition, the team that wins the Cup has the #32 draft pick in the first round, even if they finished DFL during the regular season.
