2024-25 NHL Misc. Thread

Yea. Invisible Man has been very visible in this series with 8 points so far.

Colorado scores 2 goals in 3:02 and retake the lead 5-4 with 10 to go
The go ahead goal was a total Dallas cluster***k own goal... looked like one of our beer league highlight reels.. McKinnon threw it to the slot and the entire Stars team freak out and one of them trying to clear it bounced it off another Stars player shoulder and past Oettinger

Yea it was. Some strange goals in this game and then Marty hit the post a couple times on the rush.

Yeah… never saw that coming 🙄

It’s a predictable and proper fit. It’ll be interesting to see what other moves Drury makes this off season.

Well, for a couple of games of it at least. Rantanen was pretty invisible through the first four games with only one secondary assist and a nearly flatlined game score. He seems to have found his footing in Games 5 and 6, but we'll see if it holds up. He's been erratic for Dallas.

So, let's say good bye to Ottawa, LA and Minnesota by looking at their off season.

Ottawa ...
Honestly, it was good to see them back in the post season as they've tortured whatever fan base they still had for years. New owner bounce, although it took a minute. Contract-wise, they've got some vets on expiring deals but Giroux is probably the only one who really matters. He's not what he used to be, but he still means a lot to that team. Like a lot of NHL teams, they have a moderate Cap fund this summer, which really doesn't open up for two seasons. Most of their core is locked in and they finally found a goaltender. The pipeline is pretty well stocked, and this is a team on the rise ... to some degree. I think the coaching is holding them back, but Travis Green won't be going anywhere after finally getting them in the playoffs.

LA ...
The Kings are sitting on two young stars in Byfield and Clarke and found Darcy Kuemper's second wind in net. Two veteran scorers in Kempe and Fiala had strong years and Kopitar seems to be eternal. The bones are strong and most of their contract issues are in depth roles where their system makes it pretty easy to plug and play. The problem is, what does it take to get one notch better and get out of this first round and done rut. They have a bigger than average Cap fund for a playoff team, so maybe they take a swing at the market. Their pipeline isn't barren but isn't overflowing either. It might be time to take a big swing.

Minnesota ...
I have no idea. Guerin has been all over the place as GM, but he's been managing a terrible Cap situation. That's done now, and they'll head to the summer with about the average war chest for a playoff team, as their capture penalties on Suter and Parise's deals shrinks from $14 million to $1.7 million. It always seems like about half a roster in Minnesota, so maybe they can start to flesh things out a bit. They certainly hit on a great injection of young talent with Boldy and Faber emerging and Buium joining the group for next season. The Wild have a couple of bad veteran contracts but nothing too onerous. Interested to see where they head from here, but they should be able to maintain this level without too much trouble.

Money talks, it would seem. Drury's gonna need to pull multiple rabbits out of his hat this summer to actually improve that roster.
As much as I like Shesterkin to carry a huge load with the Rangers, is that team even good enough to not stay out of that non-playoff mix in the East with teams like Pittsburgh and Boston who seem to be trending downwards?

If you look at the state of the rosters of younger teams like Ottawa and Columbus you would think those types of teams will replace the Bruins and Pens and even Rangers as East playoff entrants next year and beyond.

Masterton Finalists

Marc-Andre Fleury
Gabriel Landeskog
Sean Monahan

Even though he didn’t play in the regular season, it has to be Landeskog, no?

Those are three great Finalists and all three have endured quite a lot in different ways entirely!

Selke Finalists. Barkov won it last year (with Jordan Staal a distant 2nd) and in 2021. He was also a finalist in 2022.

Aleksander Barkov
Anthony Cirelli
Sam Reinhart
