Probably not but there is some hope with the Ducks. They believe Carlsson has more upside than Fantilli. i. If they stick with Zegras and also have Mactavish, they are set in the middle. I would throw the kitchen sink at them if they held first overall.
 
If anything, because of how the Mailloux pick turned out so far, the organization should feel emboldened to take him.

It was a temporary shit storm - that didn't affect anyone's bottom line besides the bloggers who got years of content from it - and now nobody gives a shit.

And not to mention, Mailloux was actually convicted of a crime. Connelly, for all we know for sure besides the swastika incident, could be a "victim" of people airing grievances.

If it was just the swastika thing, I'd consider him with our own pick. With all the other stuff, I can't do it.

But with Winnipeg's pick, which should be in the middle of the 20s? I'll take my chances.

For sure. “Swastika guy” was my shorthand for all his red flags. Geoff won’t let Hugo draft him even in the second round — not after saying sorry 1000 times a few yrs ago

Here's the thing with Connolly, and other "problem" prospects of his ilk. If he cuts the bullshit and fixes his life without having any problems going forward, assuming the story is true, and he turns into a good player? Besides a couple of people here & there, everyone will eventually forget or flat out not care.

Hasn't been arrested, hasn't been charged with a crime, and based on what was written, he hasn't done anything illegal.
 
I would be surprised as well. But in the off chance that he's there... Yeah, I'm taking him. He wouldn't have the pressure of being the team's first pick and could stay in college for 2-3 years to get some minutes & hit the gym.

(Or we could take a small Euroleaguer like we did with Mesar. Hello, Lucas Pettersson!)
 
Connoly has done similar image rehab as Mailoux. He has taken multicultural diversity courses, participated in volunteer work. He and his father coached in a floirida tournament with teams from non traditional hockey markets. I would certainly take a chance on him. Every team will ask him about it come interview time.

That’s great but . . . this is also a kid who just two years ago took a dump in a teammate’s hockey bag. That’s something really f’ed up about that. I think I’d pass.
