2024 Draft

I get it but there's a size issue too. Bedard is already small and Demidov is average height. Hard to gauge because Chicago needs everything but I think they want their Victor Hedman.
I think they are happy enough with Vlasic and Korchinski to where they dont feel desperate for a number 1 D in this draft.

I also dont think Kyle Davidson gives a flying fuck enough about size to bypass a 100 pt winger to give support to his generational player.

There is a reasonable enough chance Chicago is drafting outside the top 5 next year

FYI, 5OA picks over last 25-years:

2000 – Raffi Torres (LW, New York Islanders)
2001 – Stanislav Chistov (LW, Anaheim Ducks)
2002 – Ryan Whitney (D, Pittsburgh Penguins)
2003 – Tomas Vanek (LW, Buffalo Sabres)
2004 – Blake Wheeler (RW, Phoenix Coyotes)
2005 – Carey Price (G, Montréal Canadiens)
2006 – Phil Kessel (RW, Boston Bruins)
2007 – Karl Alzner (D, Washington Capitals)
2008 – Luke Schenn (D, Toronto Maple Leafs)
2009 – Brayden Schenn (C, Los Angeles Kings)
2010 – Nino Niederreiter (RW, New York Islanders)
2011 – Ryan Strome (C, New York Islanders)
2012 – Morgan Reilly (D, Toronto Maple Leafs)
2013 – Elias Lindholm (C, Carolina Hurricanes)
2014 – Michael Dal Colle (LW, New York Islanders)
2015 – Noah Hanifin (D, Carolina Hurricanes)
2016 – Olli Juolevi (D, Vancouver Canucks)
2017 – Elias Pettersson (C, Vancouver Canucks)
2018 – Barrett Hayton (C, Arizona Coyotes)
2019 – Alex Turcotte (C, Los Angeles Kings)
2020 – Jake Sanderson (D, Ottawa Senators)
2021 – Kent Johnson (C, Columbus Blue Jackets)
2022 - Cutter Gauthier (RW, Philadelphia Flyers)
2023 - Orville Redenbacher (D, Montreal Canadiens)

I count 2-Elite players thus far out of last 24-draft grouping
No love for Kessel? Your standards are too high.

Hanifin, Brayden Schenn, Rielly, Lindholm, Wheeler, Vanek are all solid picks as well. Maybe not elite but core players that can make a difference. I'd be fine with a player of this calibre. Especially if that player is a 6"4 220 pounds monster.

Also it's too early to look at the last 4 drafts.

There is no chance Chicago is not drafting top 5 next year.

They could, but they have a system with enough of each that they should take BPA, and Demidov feels like as good of a Bedard running mate as you can find, i dont think they pass on that. Levshunov would also be acceptable if they go D
I dunno... Demidov feels a little too similar to Bedard. A "small-ish" shifty, dangler type. I wouldn't take him at 2, but Lindstrom would actually be the perfect type of player to play with a Bedard.

That's fair but do you risk number two on a guy that's already been banged up relatively hard? I can see them going Lindstrom over don't call me Theissman Demidov though.

Lindstrom's downside is middle 9 W that takes forever to get there. He's the highest bust possibility of the group in the top 5. Zero chance i take him at 2, i dont care if he's big

Yeah, I said that I wouldn't take him at 2... just saying that I think he's a "better" fit with Bedard, for, reasons. I would absolutely take Demidov over him though.

I dont think he has the offensive chops to be the best W on a line with Bedard, and if he does i think its going to take him a long time to get there.

Its Demidov or Shelvunov, and i hope the former, but understand the latter

You know Lindstrom has been hurt all year... Right?

Hawks go demy or D
