2025-26 Canes Miscellaneous Thread

Nikishin's look is far worse than Jack Johnson's After being a lineup staple in a season where he played up and down the lineup due to injuries and after WINNING THE STANLEY CUP IN HIS FIRST FULL SEASON...."I want to be somewhere else where I will get more opportunity to play top minutes' ????

I am very serious about shipping his ass off to Seattle where he can get top 4 minutes and opportunity. He can take over Vince Dunn's #1 LHD role after Dunn is either traded this coming season or walks as a UFA after this coming season. He can then play out his next 12 NHL seasons there as a highly paid, good Dman on a forever sucky team.

Vancouver is likewise a lovely spot … and equally unlikely to ever be relevant during his prime. I’d suggest that, except people with start thinking/talking about Petey again and I’m sick of that topic.

I’d love Edvinsson here if you could do a D for D trade! I agree with JB that he would probably flourish here…but I doubt Detroit would part with him even with Seider firmly planted on that blue line.

A key takeaway for me from that Rangers rumor is that NY in all likelihood offered comparable money to Carolina's. And a bridge deal is apparently a non starter with the Nikishin camp. For me that is the only way he stays a Cane. And if he is as much of a malcontent as what's being portrayed, then ship him out. He cannot even be offer sheeted , so advantage, Canes.

Yeah, that’s the key takeaway here. All the leverage is with the Canes since Nikishin isn’t arbitration eligible, and since Carolina has plenty of options in-house if he decides to sit out. He’s been qualified, his rights belong to the Canes and he doesn’t have a shred of trade protection. His right will go where ever the Canes decide to trade them when they decide to trade them. You want to drag it out? Cool. The Canes will carry on with Nystrom or Legault and be just fine.

Not sure if this is being discussed in a different or more appropriate thread, but does anyone here have a strong opinion about the Cup engraving featuring the Dundon family as the first seven names while a player like Joel Nystrom got (arguably) snubbed for not playing enough games?

This was discussed in another thread. My opinion is that Joel Nystrom should have gotten his name on the Cup. Dundon putting his family on the Cup does not bother me, HOWEVER, if THAT is why Joel Nystrom was not included, that would bother me.

The Canes had a couple more spots to use and didn't use them, so to me that means that whoever makes those decisions decided to not include Nystrom.

Lots of talk in this thread - like the last 3 or 4 pages

Linda Cohen came out and made a not so nice comment about the entire Dundon family appearing on the Cup.

How fortunate we are to have this 1st world problem because the Carolina Hurricanes won the freakin’ Stanley Cup and are the 2025-26 Champions!!

Yeah, this is definitely not going to ruin my enjoyment of the Cup win. I doubt that the players are going to be bothered when they bring the Cup with them for their celebrations.

If anything, this gives whoever controls such things the opportunity to update the guidelines for who can get added to the Cup and what is out of bounds. If this is really is something that people who care about such things cannot tolerate, then change the rules (or clarify them).

It's unfortunate that Dundon was the first owner to get selfish and add names to the Cup. I know this is true because I've heard it at least a dozen times in the last 24 hours.

But I will add my honest opinion here. His family has NO business having their names on the cup. Neither does the family, dogs, or drinking buddies of ANY winning team. It should be 100% limited to THE coaches and players. VP to the executive GM, director of player relations, social media director, etc.....sorry, you didn't earn jack shit!

I’m trying to have an opinion on this but really I don’t care enough to get there.

Do we even know if they asked Nyström if he wanted to be on. Maybe he said nö. Maybe they cöuldn’t figure öut höw tö dö the döts.

I’ve got an opinion, but it’s as light as a feather so I’m truly puzzled by all the backlash. I’d have liked to have seen Nystrom on there. Period. As a personal preference. I honestly don’t care about any of the rest of it and if Dundon wasn’t allowed to put his family’s names on there maybe somebody could have told him first. Ya know?

There is only one danger in ever putting your spouses name on the Holy Grail...you just hope that Tom's lovely wife Veruschka never runs off with the pool boy and divorces Tom...that's the only danger I see in any of this! :)

I think they left off our lone Chinese staffer, Phuc Yoo!
