2025-26 NHL Miscellaneous Thread

It must be final now … it’s on Puckpedia and LeBrun has it as a done deal.

So for Florida, they go from a goaltending battery of Bob and Tarasov to Markstrom and Schmid. They were spending around $11 million AAV and now they’re spending $6 mil on Markstrom and whatever they can get Schmid signed for. His old deal was $875K … so figure a little more than $1 mil. That’s decent work in the short term, as Markstrom is probably about the same as late career with a lot of miles Bob and a fair amount cheaper. I’m a bit surprised they went with the Schmid deal though. Tarasov was OK for them last season and would cost roughly the same.

That leaves Florida with $4.4 million in Cap space with 12 forwards and 6 D, so they’ll need to figure out some extras. It also means they aren’t upgrading their position groups. And without Greer, Rodrigues and Boqvist their depth has taken a pretty sizable hit. Oh, and that puts them out of the running for any of the bigger names that have been rumored to want to play in the parking lot in Sunrise.

BTW, all of this begs the question of what the Devils plan to do in net. They struggled for what seemed like forever to find goaltending before they traded for Markstrom and currently have just Jake Allen and Niko Daws on the books with NHL experience. Rodrigues and Boqvist help their depth up front and they’ve got just shy of $13 million in Cap space … with VERY little goaltending available in free agency. Their fans think they’re in it for Hellebuyck, but I’ve got my doubts about that … and their fans think they’re in it for everybody, all the time. I doubt the Devils are anywhere close to done with the roster moves, bottom line.

Other than Hellebuyck, you’d think that one of Vegas’ goaltenders will be moved … if not both. The Wild are sitting on a potential move with both Wallstedt and Gustavsson. Buffalo needs to pare down their group which could put UPL or Levi on the block. Or both. Montreal is ready to move Montembault as well. The free agent pool basically boils down to Bob, Freddie and Stuart Skinner if you narrow it down to guys who could be a starter or a platoon starter. Two very short term fixes and one absolute wild card.

Bottom line … moar trades!

Wallstedt would be a good get for anyone, so maybe the Devils go there! Bob to Edmonton would be fun...I would not rule that out as the goalie musical chairs continue to play out.

No chance in hell they trade Wallstedt. Gustavsson on the other hand.
Yeah … I think that’s right. The Wild showed belief in Wallstedt this post season and I think it’s Gustavsson they’d prefer to move. Especially since he’s got the hefty contract extension kicking in … tomorrow. That said, he’s got a full no move, so … yeah. No way they can afford to pay both of them next summer so something is going to have to give.
