The season kicks off on Friday with Liverpool hosting Bournemouth. Saturday's early match is an early test between 2 top 4 contenders with Villa hosting Newcastle. The big match of the weekend is Arsenal visiting Old Trafford. Can Man U recover from last year‘s disastrous 15th place finish? And is Arsenal a legitimate contender, or a pretender again. The weekend concludes on Monday with newly promoted Leeds hosting Everton.

Excited for the PL to get going. Thought it was a great game today, got chills listening to YNWA, and then to see them pull it out at the end. Props to Liverpool. But also, good showing by Bournemouth, they didn't roll over on an incredibly emotional day.

Any predictions for the PL?

Here are mine:

Top Four
1) Liverpool
2) Arsenal
3) City
4) Chelsea.

Europe spots
5) Villa
6) United
7) Brighton

Relegation Battle:
16) Brentford
17) Sunderland
18) Wolves
19) Leeds
20) Burnley

Super emotional just watching the match. Great tributes to Diogo Jota, and you could see how the players felt. Glad Hugo scored on his debut, that Chiesa got his first, and that Mo scored again. One thing seems eminently clear: Ryan Gravenberch is an indispensable part of my team. The problems in the back reemerged but the attack? Phew. And if Chiesa continues to play well like that of the bench, that's an added bonus.

I can see West Ham in the mix too, but I think Everton will be a dark horse this year pushing for the top ten. I just have a gut feeling that not all three teams just promoted will go down this year. I think Sunderland has spent well to shore up the team. Not just players, but players with good PL experience.

As for Newcastle, I didn't have them in my top 7, I admit I had Brighton, a bit of a homer pick, but I love what we have done this year. Shit even ESPN picked them to be 5th. lol But, Newcastle has had such a bad window, and it will only be made worse if/when they lose Isak. I see them stumbling to about 8/9 this year.

Realistically for Brighton, we will be in the 6-9 range again battling for one of the last Europe spots, and hopefully at least one good cup run to a SF. So, I put them in the top end.

Early morning at the beach so missed the early matches. Eager to read what everyone thought.
This City/Wolves match? I figured Wolves aren't in a good place if they're starting ex-Red (barely) Ki-jana Hoever in midfield (!). However, one thing stands out so far: Tijani Reijnders looks pretty good. 😬

Early Villa match and I slept through the first two thirds before waking up and turning it on just as Konsa was leaving the field on a cut and dry DOGSO red card. Apparently it was an absolute snooze fest before that as well which isn't super surprising considering Emery put out the most boring lineup he possibly could. I'm starting to get worried that the "just wait a couple seasons until he goes back to being super conservative" people might be right about Emery. He also seems allergic to incorporate younger players and also just makes his mind up about guys and never works with them or gives them a second chance. Someone also needs to make sure he's aware that he has five subs and is allowed to use them at any time, not just in the 85th minute. It's also pretty clear why he's had more success in knockout competitions than the league since he is far more daring in those competitions compared to his normal hyper conservative gameplans.

I watched Wrexham instead of Villa-Newcastle. First Championship match at the Racecourse Ground since 1981-82. They’re finding life in the Championship a tad more difficult then their last 3 seasons, they’re 0-2.

And the guy that hurled the racket insults at Semenyo was arrested.

There is a big jump up in the finances and level of play in the championship compared to any jump below that and then obviously the biggest jump that exists between the championship and the prem. Being able to jump up so quickly to the championship isn't super surprising, but they're going to have to just stabilize and spend a few years getting established in the championship

I think Wrexham will end up midtable. Consolidate for a couple years then really push for promotion. Doesn't help they lost one of their top players in Oli Rathbone to an ACL injury.

As for the games today, Wolves showed they were bad, which I figured they would. I was dutifully impressed with Sunderland.

Brighton did what they always do against Fulham, draw. 7 draws in 11 games, but damn it was frustrating with what was essentially the last kick. I thought we outplayed them, but good on them for getting a draw.
