I think it was Ben Kerr that said before the draft that he blew all the interviews, got referred to as the idiot during the session, and was on most teams Do Not Draft lists. Oh the disappointment when we ended up drafting him after that.David Fischer's another one. Fischer's probably had the most impact on me; I've stopped making excuses for prospects that plateau/regress because of it.
To this day, he still might be one of the most efficient skaters I've ever seen. There was a development camp I went to, I think it was 2008 or 2009, when they were doing skating sprints and timing the players. You had Pacioretty, who looked like a man among boys, who skated hard, but his skating looked like he burned all of his energy. Then you had Fischer, who wasn't as fast but not far off, but he looked like a fish in water and like he could have skated that way for a very long time before being tired.
Unfortunately for him, nothing else ever happened beyond his skating.
We live and we learn.
For me it was Ben Maxwell, I really thought he would be a good one, stylistically reminded me of Brad Richards.
