2025 NHL UFA/Trade Thread

Yeah, if the Habs somehow finish low enough in the standings to be in the McKenna sweepstakes then something went terribly, terribly wrong with their season. And any 1st that the Habs would get at the deadline for, say, Laine, would be from a playoff bound team that wont be in the McKenna sweepstakes either.

As excited as I was a year ago at this time to see what was in store for the Habs in terms of progress, I am doubly excited today and if they can somehow address that 2C question with McTavish then watch out.

Marco Rossi is 5'9" and small. No doubt about it. However he somehow managed to score 60 points last season, playing with 5'8" Mats Zuccarello, and 5'11" Marcus Johansson. And he's as yet unsigned.

With bigger wingers, could he produce in Montreal long enough to bridge the gap to when Hague is ready for prime time? He has to be a better option than fucking Newhook, no?

All this bellyaching over a 2 line C and especially one that costs significant future assets (like Mason Mac) is non sensical to me.

If you feel that the team can’t make the playoffs with a significant two line C, then there’s no point in throwing away assets now. If you feel that the team can make the playoffs with what they have now but then would need an upgrade totwo line C to win a round or two in the playoffs then we are in rental territory at the deadline.

I’m in the latter category. I think the team can finish in the top four in the division with what they have and can afford to be patient.
