2025 NHL UFA/Trade Thread

If they move Sid, they will absolutely clean house. They could do a pretty quick rebuild if Sid gives them the go ahead. I just think that Dubas can't even think about it until Sid approaches him. He'd be crucified for being the one to initiate the conversation.
Dubas is a puppet , the Fenway group calls the shots

He wanted a rebuild but they wanted to keep trying to win

Sid is 38....he's got max 2 more years. He's not gonna want to stay when his play is in decline....he's got nothing to win by leaving Pens. Players like him (and Ovy) will play their whole career with 1 team.

Another Stanley Cup is never guaranteed, even if he ends up with Panthers or Avs....remember Kariya-Selanne with Avs....was a sure bet slam dunk that they'd win the cup....never happened

Crosby ain't leaving....and i think he has a NTC

full no move clause

I agree finish with 1 team , he has won everything else

Trading Hage would be cruel as he wants to play for his dad's team.
I dont give a shit about sentiment. Sid always wanted to play for the Habs too and I'd love to have him, but not at any price. Hage is too high a price to pay and, quite frankly, the Pens have no cards to play.

Once Sid.lets it be known that he wants out, we know that it's between us and maybe the Avs. Once word gets out that Sid is leaving, the offers get weaker because now that the world knows, Dubas HAS to trade him.

Draft picks, sure. But Demidov, Slaf, Hutson, Reinbacher, Hage? Fuck off.

You can have Dach, Beck, Roy, Engstrom, Struble, Newhook. Otherwise forget it. There's no need to give away our future stars for a year and a half of Crosby.

Trading Hage and Reinbacher for a 38 year old Crosby is something Bergevin would do in a heartbeat. General rule of thumb should be that if it's something Bergevin would do, then Hughes should do the exact opposite of that.

Except that Bergevin never traded high valued prospects or first round picks for vets.

The irony is that he would have been better doing this exact thing instead of standing pat.

Regime never had a plan except 31 and a bible

Never knew when to start the systemic purge and do what Hugo is doing now

2016 with the PK trade was the time to do it
Very different argument. Also fairly pointless exercise given that the previous regime Achilles heel was poor drafting and development, so a rebuild was doomed from the start.

They should have been way more aggressive circa 2013-2016. Empty the cupboards and go all in, instead of rolling Desharnais and Plekanec as your top 2 centers.
