2026-27 Premier League Thread

I really hope that VAR refusing to look at the Foden red card incident in the Manchester derby is a high profile enough incident that it will convince the league that they need to take VAR out of the refs hands and run it themselves. How do you not at least make the ref look at a play where Bruno clearly kicks Foden in the back and then simulates completely on the kickout. Like, I don't blame Oliver for giving the red initially from what he saw, but that's why we have VAR.
 
Matches this weekend included Brentford's absolute thrashing of Chelsea (3-0), Brighton humbling of Arsenal (also 3-0), Villa keeping Spurs winless (but not goalless any longer) 3-2, and a doozie at the Etihad, with City defeating a determined Sunderland side, 5-3.
My Reds are five unbeaten after defeating Bournemouth at The Vitality 1-0. Alexander Isak scored the lone goal, his fourth of the season. He's second in the Prem RN. 😳
 
Villa finally got a W, but you can't take anything away from results against Spurs at this stage. Big test of whether or not they've actually found their footing coming up after the international break. They've got Brentford at home, and the Bees have long been a Villa bugaboo. I'm still convinced in the quality of the players they added and that it will only be a matter of time before Villa get some real traction. I just hope it doesn't take so long that Europe is off the table for next season
 
Man City have FINALLY been found guilty on 115 breaches of financial rules. Of course, they will appeal and no sanctions have been decided yet. So this might take another decade to settle. We'll see but I hope they strip every single trophy they've won during the impacted timeframe (2009 to 2018), demand repayment of any winnings and force a sale. Their ownership simply cannot be trusted not to just brazen this out and do it all over again.

Man City 115 charges verdict LIVE as Blues guilty of almost all breaches

Manchester City and the Premier League have been locked in a long-running battle after the Premier League champions were hit with 115 charges of alleged financial breaches.

I'm curious about the coincidence of the timing. Wonder if they saw the NBA quickly investigate and absolutely ruin the clippers and taking as long as they have on so many more charges was probably a bad look. They have to know it will be an absolute disaster if they give a slap on the wrist, but the FA is so pathetic I wouldn't be surprised if it's a fine and a transfer ban.
 
In addition to whatever penalties the Premier League levies, they could be sued by individual clubs. Everton were found to have breached Profitability and Sustainability rules for 2021-22 and had to pay Burnley £35.1 million because the breach was found to have given them a sporting advantage. Burnley were relegated that season, 3 points from safety. And if clubs are allowed to claim compensation for missed Champions League appearances, look out.
