Jankowski already stole his job. He’s paying KK not to play whether he wants to or not. He might as well pay his less not to play.
Some guys just can’t do what’s required of them. Sometimes that’s because of a lack of effort, sometimes it’s an ability issue, and sometimes it’s mental. With Kotkaniemi I suspect it’s all of the above, with a heavy lean towards the mental. Either way, the sooner he gets bought out or traded the better because there has never been a Hurricanes related topic I am this sick of talking about.
Yeah, I don't see it. I’d like to see it, but I just don’t. I like the kid, don’t get me wrong, but I think he’s a secondary player and not the 1st pairing battleship he was supposed to be. I’d love to be wrong and I promise I’m not going to argue the point all summer but suffice to say that I wouldn’t be broken hearted if they moved him
The Canes have 2 weeks to figure it out. His buyout cost is $850k per year so if trading him is going to require eating more than that, they should just buy him out, unless they don’t want $850k of dead money against the cap from 2030-31 through 2033-34.

KK gets his Cup ring, day with the Cup and lots and lots of millions of dollars in cash...he's a winner no matter what his play here looked like...the world is a beautiful thing sometimes.
I do too, but I will say, he appeared to be playing somewhat sheltered minutes and a sheltered role as the Cup chase went on. I think that concussion did slow him down a bit too that factored into things. He is certainly worth holding onto if you can this summer (if he is not part of a trade package) because the Canes defense is deep enough to let him grow into his game again next season. Let's not forget there were plenty of regular season games in the first half of the year where the Canes barely had 3/4 regular/healthy D carrying the mail and Nikishin was playing a substantial role in keeping that defense afloat with no Slavin, no Ghost etc...
