2026 NHL UFA/Trade Thread

It’s a real bifurcated market right now

Any star who signed their deal a few years ago is a giant bargain — and some will inevitably feel ripped off.

It’ll be interested to see how Hughes handles the discrepancy. Ie the Habs have 100 point guys 50 goal scorers, and PPG d-men signed for way less than 10M… how do they go out and offer a Robertson type player 17M?

You get the guys to win the cup with this group, that’s what they want.

Then they will all get paid again.

Never ripped off making millions , get your bag and more down the line if your still good if you are a Slaf or Lane

This isnt the NBA where a very good player gets 20mil vs the max after his ELC
 
I’m not expecting the Habs to do much this summer. The prices are out of whack. Maybe a couple of lesser moves but I don’t see a 2C coming unless Anaheim lowers the price on MM. Multiple teams reported interested.

If not, i think they end up getting a big winger, and roll with Demi as the defacto Kucherov style ''center/winger''

Maybe spend on a winger? I would be OK with a lesser 2C who then replaces Danault next year. (I’m not sold on Kapanen.)

A true NJH 5-6 RH D would be good too.

I would like more balance and a tougher team to play against, but not at the cost of a stupid trade or contract.

In house improvement of Slafkovsky, Demidov, Bolduc, Newhook, Reinbacher and Engstrom is just as important, if not more. That’s up to MSL and Nicholas, not so much HuGo.
