Are we too harsh with our D?

The "Big 4" of Weber, Petry, Chariot and Edmunson fare better in playoff games that are officiated as though it's the late 90's than they do in 21st century regular season play. But I also think that they're too slow, that they lose races to loose pucks, and that a good team (i.e. not the Leafs) can exploit that. I further think that both the Merrill and Gus acquisitions were a waste of time and assets. Romanov and Kulak should be playing ahead of both of them.

I agree....but fast players all of a sudden become slow players when they shy away from contact, or slow down in a puck race to avoid getting hit.

It seems like Leafs dmen were looking over their shoulders every time the Habs dumped the puck (which was classic Jacques Lemaire Quebecois coaching strategy).

The Jets are bigger, tougher....but also slightly slower than Matthews-Marner-Nylander....We might not be able to crash and bang against them.

However, should we somehow make it past Jets (somehow, i hope, fingers crossed), then to avoid getting swept in 2 games by Avs, we need to hit their MacKinnon-Rantanen-Landersdog into submission.....but we gotta be able to catch up to them on the ice (good luck Weber)

Jets have size , speed , skill , scoring on their top 9

They will be a much bigger pain than the chokers we beat

31 will need to spit nickels like never before

I think my friend was right, the D looked quite solid in 6-7 of the playoff matches The top 4 played decent so far.

They've been excellent. With back pressure from the forwards, they are able to hold the line and with our play in the neutral zone they have less chances of getting flat footed so they're able to play physical in their zone, knock puck loose, kill plays and clear the front of the net.

Not my kind of defencemen but they've been doing a much better job since we adjusted and stopped chasing.

Still wish they could move the puck better though.

The Big 4 have played exceptionally well and they all play with a level of "malice aforethought" which is a nice change from too many years of scaredy cats like Breeze-by, Ninny-ma, Popovic, et al, who push and shove but don't actually drill anybody. It isn't enough to simply put your body in the path of an opponent. Not in the playoffs. At this time of year your only desire as a defenseman is to f*** up someone's s*** if they go near the puck or your net. These four do that and their opponents (especially the wussies like Patio-ready) have already learned to hesitate and look over their shoulders whenever they're in our zone.

But the secret to their success, apart from their size and malevolence, is that the forwards are coming back to support. They aren't all hanging out at the opposition blue line a la Drouin waiting for a stretch pass. They do the work. All 20 guys do the work every shift. Without that, those four would start looking their age pretty quickly.

Our entire team is playing their asses off and committed to team defence

We are stifling the opposition , in their face and playing aggressive …...we take no shifts off
