Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

The last statement is chilling, and you have to think that there will be an influx of calls.

Hockey Canada wants to hear from anyone – past or present – who feels they are the victim of mistreatment, sexual violence, harassment or abuse by someone affiliated with our organization. You can reach out via the Canadian Sport Helpline, a free, anonymous, confidential and independent service in both official languages: 1-888-837 7678 or [email protected].

Well I see Lupul on the roster and my first thought is fuck that guy and he is probably guilty here. That guy was a real piece of shit. Some of the stories I heard about his time in Edmonton with Torres and Stoll all HEAVILY addicted to coke were nutso, and not just the stories about the coke itself. Those three were apparently monsters with women.

Ian White being on that team doesn't help either.

Lupul, White & Gregory Campbell are definitely three names that lept off the page for me.

I mean, I guess I don’t know much about Campbell Jr like I do with White & Lupul, but I assume the shit apple didn’t fall far from the shit tree.

Bet some Leafs were involved. White, at a minimum.

I'm laughing, and will continue to....but Johnny Hockey to Laine on that PP is going to be a religious experience to watch.

Laine is going to score 45-50 if he stays healthy (and still suck at evens)

Interestink. I thought he was a goner, especially after Columbus signed Gaudreau.

And that’s a hell of an investment in a very one-dimensional player. If he gets back on track to being the 50-goal threat he looked like he’d be at the start of his career it’s not a bad deal. If not…

Well, let’s hear some of them.

I’m still super curious about how the Leafs shelved him and he quietly disappeared.
The urban legends of the Stoll, Lupul, Torres combination? Oh.. There are a lot of stories out there. Nothing too unique; the typical cocaine turning you into a monster kinda deal. They had a legit addiction though. And for Lupul, at the very least he had an alcoholism problem in Toronto (heard from someone who would know). Prolly still on the coke too though. I think at the end of the day that's what ended his career more than his fake injury shit.

As for Ian White, he was a much less functioning drug addict than Lupul, that's for sure.

It’s a bad deal. Even if Laine returns to not complete suckage.

I think Columbus is just recognizing that they're columbus and will have to overpay to keep player. Johnny signing is kind of a once in a generation get for them and changes their timetables. They create additional flexibility with Nyquist and Voracek expiring over the next 2 seasons and they have a decent/intriguing group of young guys around the organization now.

They probably don't have a contender underway there, but probably a competitive/playoff team.

Yeah, from an on-ice/hockey perspective you’re probably right.

In terms of building their standing in that market, creating a more entertaining product post-Torts and their reputation around the league though, I’m not convinced it’s a bad move.

Seriously, that PP is going to be worth the price of admission by itself.

Quite the thread

That group sex (at best) or gang rape at worst with a 10-15 to 1 male/female ratio seems almost like a standard right of passage for hockey teams is profoundly weird to me.

Same goes for a woman/girl going to bed with one player only to have the entire team burst into the room later in the night and do whatever they want with her. That’s becoming a familiar story.

What a fucked up culture.
