Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

It's too bad things couldn't have gone better for the team while he was here because man he's likeable.

I don’t begrudge Phil any of his post-Leaf success or belated recognition. Genuinely happy for the guy.

But damn if I’m not bitter at the media and other fanbases around the league that treated him like a toxic personality and an overrated laughingstock while he was here, only to turn around and treat him like a misunderstood folk hero almost as soon as he pulled on another jersey.

Definitely thought this the other night when all of the media personalities (some of whom shit on him) were super pissed at us challenging that goal.

can't believe leaf fans treated him so badly.

I definitely think what your average casual Leaf fan thinks of players is heavily influenced by the media though so don't think that helped. Lot of guys I meet in real life just parrot guys like Anthony Stewart almost word for word.

We had articles about him eating hot dogs, they loved making him the laughing stock of the all-star game, and reporters just flat out accused him of being a coach killer in interviews.

The fans complete inability to evaluate the trade properly ruined it. He was doomed from day 1.
The fans were influenced by the media telling them the team was garbage and that they just gave up 3 superstars in exchange for a pretty good player.

eh the rest of the league was way harder on Kessel.

they're the embarassing hypocrites.

In true Phil fashion he got the last laugh.

Here's every forward picked before him:

Stamkos
Ovy
Sedin
Sedin
Nash
Briere
Sharp
Toews
Skinner
B Richards
Giroux
Havlat
Perry
Kopitar
Elias
Duchene
Backes
Eriksson
Stastny

Now...whose career would you take over Phil's?
- Ovy: Yes
- Stamkos: Also yes
- Toews without the rape cover up, which will probably leave a super dark cloud over his legacy in 10-20 years. So yeah, fuck that. Who wants to be known forever as a rape enabler?
- Corey Perry maybe. Has the Hart, which is big, but was a depth player on the 2nd Cup. If Phil hits the big 1000 points, this is a wash overall imo.
- Kopitar: A better Toews with 1 less cup and 1 less rape coverup. Yes.
- Elias: 408 G, 1025 pts, 2 cups...basically a carbon copy without losing a nut.

That's it that's all. Sedins? A bit of personal hardware, no cups, fuck'em. Rick Nash? lol. 3 guys are no doubters, another 3 are arguable.

Phil with the half natty/half silicone teabag on the lot of them.

Can't disagree with any of this.

But a note on Perry---he only won one Cup, not two. His one win was in 2006/07 as an NHL sophomore. He has been back to the Cup finals three more times since then---in each of the past three seasons actually---but he's been on the losing team each time.
