Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

The way they handled Joey Anderson was always confusing to me.

He’d get thrown in on the fourth line for a single game and the fourth line would immediately look better. And then by the next game he’d be back on his way to the Marlies.

Also don’t understand the reluctance to give McMann another shot. Big, truculent, ripping the AHL to shreds when it comes to scoring goals. What’s not to like?

It's some sort of bias that coaches have where players can only be good if they have played hundreds of NHL games I think. That's why the Leafs plucked that scrub from a last place team favor of Joey Anderson, who is the same person and has proceeded to record the same numbers as Lafferty did in Chicago. You can trust Lafferty because he has played more NHL games I guess. That's all I've got.

We should trade Sheldon for MSL.

It would be as lopsided a deal as when they were both active players, but maybe the way to go with a team like ours is to have a former skill player coach us. They'd appreciate guys like Lilly and Sandin, for one. They wouldn't be sour on guys like Engvall who doesn't play a physical game. And they'd probably think guys like Simmonds should be in the ECHL.

McMann will be 27 in June. Joey Anderson will be 25 in June. Is it youth or just a lack of prior NHL games that scares them so much?

FYI I'm not saying either player is for sure great, but it is funny to see that when they acquire scrubs that do the same things you can't get them out of the lineup.

Pretty sure they are still testing things out, trying to figure out how it will all come together. I fully expect a bunch of injuries which we can use our depth to fill - like McMann, etc

Anderson had good nerdies in limited time and McMann is interesting, but I wouldn’t say the Marlies are overflowing with legit young NHL talent.

Getting depth forwards was necessary. Acciari was a great pickup. It’s just Lafferty and ZAR suck.

Ill be concerned if we are seeing this experiment continues when the puck drops for game 1.

Fingers crossed we are in the exploring stage and they are trying to find the best fit. Ideally we see Holmberg, McMann and Knies slotted in prior to the end of the season

With McMann being the age he is, there’s a definite possibility he’s just a dude who’s a minor-pro stud but can’t hack it in the NHL. What they’d call a AAAA player in baseball.

It’d be kind of nice to find out, though. And I’m pretty sure guys like Lafferty & ZAR wouldn’t he scoring 18 goals in 18 games or whatever if you put them on the Marlies.

I kind of keep forgetting that Holmberg exists. But that’s another guy where I don’t understand why he doesn’t stick in the NHL.

On the plus side Joey Anderson is gonna be a regular gudpro on Chicago, put up the same numbers as Lafferty did, and maybe in 2 years he'll be one of the Leafs deadline acquisitions so they can play him over similar intriguing Marlies players! The cycle must continue.

Lots of sky is falling around here. Aside from not getting a better return for Sandin, I'm fine with what has been done. We have upgraded our Forwards with ROR and Acciari, have some speed depth (Lafferty). On Defense we are now very deep, with a Reilly replacement (Gus) and several more shut down types. This will let us get through the battle of attrition and injuries that are bound to come.

With Marner playing out of his mind and the teams new options and depth, I don't get all the gloom and doom.
ehhh pretty sure Sandin > Gus currently. Gus needs to be heavily sheltered, always has.

Lafferty just sucks. can't think of anything he's good at.

Acciari I actually really like, sure.

McCabe has been a disappointment so far.

and Keefer wants to play his angriest lineup, not his best.

Assuming Knies is ready to contribute (major assumption and optimistic thinking, but hey why not):

Jarnkrok— Matthews — Marner
Bunting — Tavares — Nylander
Kerfoot — ROR — Knies
McMann — Kampf — Acciari

I don't think I have much interest in seeing both Lafferty and ZAR continue to plug away in the lineup as they have. This would work for me I think.
you're so cute, thinking Keefe would ever play McMann over Lafferty

I appreciate Engvall for what he was but he also left you with wanting so much more. A quick search of the threads will be a quick reminder of him being equal parts good equal parts frustrating
while this is true, he's way fucking better than Lafferty or ZAR
