Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Is he actually any good though? Columbus is not known for their player development but seems like they sold him fairly cheap

Bad teams need to make gambles like this IMO, a very late first and some crum bummery is worth while. Chicago for example is trotting out Brodie, Martinez and Murphy. Zero reason not to do this and see what Jiricek can be
Hawks have a ton of prospects , surprised they didnt make this move

I like what they are doing, and i think Davidson is a fine evaluator, but there are problems here. The fucking coach is playing Reichel, on the 4th line between literal bums like Smith and Maroon ( who somehow has gotten PP time) and seems to have way too much affinity for bum veterans who really should only be here as locker room support guys.

He looks pretty good. He wanted out of Columbus.

this isn’t a reclamation product. He was a recent top pick.
The only consistent knock on him is his skating and that he doesn't want to work with a skating coach. Even if that's true that's a maturity issue that will fade once he realizes he has to work with whatever coaches the team tells him to.

Habs could have offered better. This was another miss IMO.

Clarke in LA is a below average skater for a D but is having a solid year

If you got smarts and zone awareness you can make up for skating issues

A miss for many teams in the league unless he is a douchebag with no desire to play

Problem is they got fuck all to work and littered with vets past their prime , this is going to be a long rebuild

Nazar should be up very soon, and all the more reason you play Reichel with Bedard, see what they can do with each other. God forbid, checks notes Ryan Donato loses his heater...

we're at the point where the numbers start to show us something real i think.

Leafs good overall but not good enough at 5v5 yet - though they're in a tight clump of teams there that their rank can change quickly. i.e. they dropped 4 slots last night just by dipping 3 10ths of a percent.

A funny thing seems to be happening though - everybody has been waiting forever for these Atlantic rebuilding teams to take the leap into the playoff picture. And this year they even have the struggling Bruins opening up a slot for them to easily fight for. But they've all decided to suck again. The Sens have promising underlying numbers but still can't win. The Sabres have completely earned their .500 record. The Red Wings are lucky to even be just a game under .500....they should be fighting for worst overall this year.

Instead, two mostly ignored rebuilds seem to be taking a step forward in their place - suddenly the Flyers and Jackets are the teams currently fighting over the last playoffs spot in the east....and both of them have underlying numbers that support that bubble position. I haven't looked too closely at how they're both doing it this year but they're starting to look actually legit.

so the NHL Edge data seems pretty cool and all but it's fairly ridiculous that they categorize anyone below average as simply "<50th percentile". Makes the data near useless. And they don't allow CSV extraction either so it's very hard for anyone to crunch the numbers. This is obviously on purpose to protect players with poor data - probably an NHLPA thing tbh.

but somebody did the hard work of collecting all the individual raw data somehow for the below average players:
