I am amazed after acquiring Ds on bad teams that can't skate, Leaf fans and media want to repeat this.

the interesting this year though is that this is something it looks like we've legitimately improved on.

despite our overall nerdies being poor, i think clearing the crease and stoppping cross-crease passes and preventing rebound opportunities has been a strength - i know those stats are tracked by some people but i'm not sure where to find them. I would be surprised if we didn;'t rank highly there tho.

looked like a genius last year.

and tbh, i don't really understand why they suck this year. the roster is legit good i think.

i know that he likely overpaid his UFA signings this year but still those guys are all good players i think.

I don't think they are this bad but old players tend to get worse as time goes on.

But I'd bet the over next year
 
They are underachieving. 32nd in SH%.

But the strategy is kind of dumb. They aren't a cup contender, and they aren't bottoming out to get stars either. They would have been much better off tanking with a Celebrini->Hagens/Schaefer->McKenna->DuPont drafts coming up.

They are better off finishing last this year than finishing 15th-16th.

It's hard when you have two super elites like Josi and Saros tho.
 
The Saros extension was really dumb. I get how good he's playing, but what is the end game here? They aren't good enough to win but are going for it.
 
Saros is a great goalie signed at a solid price thru age 36. I don't see what's dumb about that.

Askarov might be good we'll see.

not gonna lie i'm enjoying the always-loved devils getting crushed by the blue jackets right after the panel in our game last night unanimously gushed about them as locks to win the conference (while having a worse record than us while almost 100% healthy).
