Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Bettman: McDavid has the potential to be the best ever.

Eh, just saying. Posting it because it’s interesting. Go Leafs Go!

My problem is I spend most of the games explaining that "yes slashing a guy in the head is a penalty" to the fans around me.
It's not just you. Everywhere I've seen a game it's the same boos for calling a blatant penalty.

McDavid also can’t hold the jockstraps of Gretzky, Lemieux or that Trump-loving Bruin POS that used to wear #4.

I was there and things got ugly. Refs got pelted with debris, full cans of beer, etc. they had to stay close to the glass and run down the tunnel to keep from getting hit. It was a bullshit call for an overtime penalty but the refs did their job: they kept the team from the big US television market in the game.

Even the radio post game show, which was being done from the beer garden in the arena lobby, got spicy as upset fans started with the shenanigans. Apparently, Rogers Place isn't one of those arenas that cuts off beer sales after the second period. Young drunkards in my section were still bringing in fresh beers and cocktails for the start of the overtime.

And of course, because it's Berta, someone yelled "FUCK TRUDEAU!" during the national anthem.

I'm not convinced that prime Connor is better than prime Sid overall tbh. It's close either way, but still.

Dude has 71 points on the powerplay this year. And yes, that's fucking impressive unto itself and every goal counts but you don't win against top teams on the powerplay.

If we're talking about all time shit, and adjusting for eras I've got him in grouped in the tier after Wayne-Mario-Bobby. With Gordie, Sid, Ovy, Jagr, Lidstrom. Don't care overly much about where people would put him in there, but pretty clearly he's in there imo.

I would separate that Gretzky/Lemieux/Orr tier.

First, I never saw Orr play so I feel like I'm not even qualified to judge him.

But as for Mario and Gretz, I still think Mario was the best all time, just hampered by poor health and injuries.

And having watched Gretz for many years, I think McDavid has him beat. I don't care about EV, PP, or anything else. I've never seen anyone with that level of skill operate at that speed. Mario was an entirely different player. But McDavid and Gretz are cut from the same mold, and I think McDavid has more.

McDavid's speed, and not just speed but ablility to change gears on a dime, and do everything at top speed is so much better than anyone else, and is comparable to any of the other greatest players of all time. Its undeniable.

If he wants to be the best though he's gotta win a few. All the others did it, even in a 30 team league.
