Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Ties are bullshit. Keep the shootout but absolutely increase the OT to 10 minutes to reduce the frequency. And if I had my way, that 10-minute OT would be 4-on-4.

There's nothing wrong with a regular season tie. But if you're that dead set against ties, 3v3 until it's over is the way. Let's see Gregor/Holmberg/Timmins in the 17th minute of 3v3 OT baby.

Traditional penalties in OT are out. Now for any infraction the coach gets to choose what players the penalized team has to put on the ice, and they get an OZD

Clearly hockey needs to evolve

They obvious answer is after 5 mins of 3 on 3, go to 2 on 2, then 1 on 1.
Then just goalies. Then bring the Timbits back on the ice to settle it.

But seriously, I like that idea best. 2-on-2 would be fun to watch and 1-on-1 would just basically be a more entertaining version of the shootout.

I had planned on never watching this... But checked it out because there's no gore in this clip. After watching this, there's no doubt in my mind that this was intentional. I really doubt that the guy intended to kill him, or even cut him... But he intentionally used his leg to "hit" him. It was extremely negligent and malicious.

@Montana here's the video with no blood. It stops after the impact and he falls.

Any kind of shot clock would be terrible in hockey. They should never do that.

I would go with either 4v4 for 5 minutes and then 3v3 for 5 minutes, or, more preferable, just 3v3 for 10 minutes. Then you'd actually see some "lines" come out, and not the same 4-5 players, so the style of play would probably change a bit because you can't just completely kill your top guys after full regulation plus another 10. But even if it remains the top guys, I'd expect 90% of games to get decided in the latter 5 minutes and not go to SO. But they should probably still have the dumb SO if tied after OT.

They’ve appealed to what? A second level of Hockey Canada review? Or are we talking judicial review? If it’s Hockey Canada, they’ll do everything in their power to keep it secret forever because protecting abusers is in their DNA. If the appeal is to a court, it will all be public regardless of whether they win.

What about making a rule that the 3 v 3 can only be comprised of forwards. Do defense.

That and ten minutes....it's guaranteed over before 10
