No argument that it was against odds -- absolutely. Achievement though? Wildcard, Division title, Pres Trophy... ahem SC Final appearance... none of it matters, only the Cup matters.
 
You have to take it all in context though and not doing that is what makes the mockery look schoolyard.

The Habs are a tire fire. While I would love to see them win, it would not surprise me to see them swept. I've seen 9 cups in my life that I can actually remember, those celebrating last night haven't. It's been a rough patch and I won't condemn them for their enthusiasm.
 
Not only will the Leafs be roasted by the fanbases, including their own, if (when...) they hang that division title, but all those supposed pro-Leaf networks will jump right in with the mockery too.

Only because we have no idea what a franchise that hasn't won a game that matters in almost 6 decades would have to celebrate, or what sort of dubious "achievements" they would wish to commemorate and draw attention to. Other than that, we don't really care.

I don't recall Leafs fans back in the late 80's not being happy on those rare occasions when they managed to eke into the final playoff spot in the garbage bin Snorris Division in Game #80. I recall them being pretty pumped about their pending rape.

Because the criteria for the Leafs is different. The Habs don't have a Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares core. Nothing is expected so any small advancement, like qualifying for the playoffs, is a thing.

If the Leafs had to wait until Game 82 to clinch a playoff spot you'd be pissed off, and rightly so. And for you, anything short of a Cup is going to be just another failure, your 59th in a row. The Habs can win or lose and it doesn't matter because they aren't even supposed to be there. But things are expected of your team, and deep down you know they aren't going to reach them because they never have and they never will until the core is busted up.

No Original Six team should be hanging banners for anything other than Cups. Hanging division or Conference "champions" banners is what mediocre expansion franchises who wear teal or orange jerseys and use collective nouns for their team names do.

Cups or GTFOH.
