I don’t remember zeke’s opinion, but I definitely thought it was an awful move at the time. Didn’t know enough about Petry, and assumed that as an Oilers reject, he must be shit.

Damn could they have ever used him for all these years though. Great 2nd pair RHD at worst, and borderline top pair.

He wasn't ready to be a #1 when Edmonton expected him to be that. When he signed in Montreal he fell in behind Markov and Subban. It was the perfect scenario for him to mature to what he is now.

Not surprising. He’s proven adept at making bold moves to push stagnant teams on the cusp over the top, but drafting has never been his thing.

His draft record during his long tenure as GM for the Hartfolina Whalicanes is an absolute wasteland, and that’s just carried over to his tenure in Pittsburgh.

Yeah he's been a solid 1B for a few years. No drama either just solid work. He is prone to brain farts though but not often.
