Around the League 2019-2025 Edition

he agreed to come here. Mitch nixed it, presumably because he wants to re-sign.
Well even with the cap rising I think you're losing Tavares.

Bennett may not get Tavares points but he is built for playoff hockey the way they're calling these games. Berube type player.

Rantanen chose Dallas. Pretty easy when the star has one location in mind. Surely Rantanen wanted to stick it to Colorado.
He was willing to go to a few locations, including Toronto, according to reports.

Apparently, Carolina wanted Marner and then Knies but we offered Cowan, Minten and 2 firsts (that’s sort of what it sounded like happened). Carolina didn’t want to send Rantanen to Toronto because they knew they might meet us in the playoffs down the line.

nah, JT is staying barring a change in management and even then he might be back unless he wants market rate.

Why don’t we just let go of Tavares? Especially if we lose to the Panthers. I hope it’s considered. He’s aging and hasn’t done enough to make himself a necessary part of the core.

Or because he simply didnt want to go to Carolina.

Mitch feels like a test the market and take highest offer guy
the way CJ reported it is the Leafs went to him and said we want to keep you, are you going to sign because if not we can trade you for Rantanen now. and he said he wanted to stay.

I could see Edmonton making a big offer to Mitch (they were said to be a team after Rantanen if he became a UFA). That’s a team he might want to play for with the core they have.

I'd have no qualms seeing Johnny walk, but a big hell no to replacing him with Florida's third best centre

He was brought in to be the mythical leader who would pull his boyhood team over the hump to glory. Instead, he's just been a useless hump. He isn't even the captain anymore because they finally realized what the Islanders realized years before: that he isn't a leader. He achieved nothing on Long Island and he's achieved nothing in Toronto.

Enough with the smack talk and baiting buddy.

You’re trolling us man. Just stop. You aren’t trying to have a reasonable and intelligent discussion.
What is unreasonable about observing that the presence of Tavares on your team hasn't moved the needle? That's not a troll, that's just observable reality.

And as you (IMO rightly) asked, why not move on from him? Would you really be any worse off if you let him walk? He's not getting any younger. His efficacy drops with each passing season. A year from today he will be a lesser player than he is today, which is less than what he was a year ago today. Father Time is undefeated.
