Usually when we compare ourselves to the team that beat us, it’s meaningless. But it does seem to actually mean something here.

They steamrolled TB and now Carolina. They did hammer us twice. But the rest of the games were 3-1 Leafs with the loss coming in OT. These other teams are in another class.

If we’d beaten them, nobody would’ve even realized the kind of beast that team really is. It’s only being realized in this series.

Keeping Marner by grinding him to a cheaper aav, ditching the fluff (Kampf, Krok, Hak, etc.) and using the savings and the extra cap space to add a guy is very likely the smartest path.
