I know the Leafs have nothing to trade but like... The fact that they're not involved here is dumb. There isn't much I wouldn't trade to swing for a guy like this. Yes there's risk, but you've tried everything with this core but surround them with a d of this caliber.

You think someone who signs a longterm deal in Florida (at a discounted rate to account for tax) would be just as likely to agree to waive to go to a team without this advantage?

Ignore the organization's, success, etc. All else equal. Is he as likely to waive? I'm not sure why this is so difficult.
