25/26: $7.5MM increase (8.5% increase)
26/27: $8.5MM increase (8.9% increase)
27/28: $9.5MM increase (9.1% increase)
$12.5MM on today's cap will be $16.12MM in 3 years.
If I'm marner or rantanen I'm probably looking for 3 year deal at $14MM (this would put marner at the same cap % in year 3 as he is at right now) or an 8 year deal north of $15MM

Not really.
Maybe not better but similar with Suzuki being a year younger and on a better contract.
EP is trending the wrong direction... Maybe that changes with a trade but his 100 point year is looking like a fluke at this point

Suzuki may be comparable overall to Pettersson, Maybe. and could be a better value.
But the habs absolutely need top end skill, and Pettersson is much better than Suzuki in that department. They should definitely be willing to risk an overpay of a mil or two to get skill like that.
And there's nothing fluky about Pettersson's production. This half season looks like the fluke, and that team seems to be imploding for all sorts of reasons.
