Leafs pay huge upfront bonus money that others dont and but LTIR players

The tax free issue is way overblown

Compared to the Leafs a) Stars have gotten a lot more talent out of late first rounders in recent years and b) Panthers have made way better trades

I agree about taxes, Also, what team is by far best at drafting? Stars. Taxes don't help that

i don't know that stars are better than the leafs.

and i don't know that the panthers get by the leafs without adding marchand for free while abusing ltir to boot.

Stars drafting is #1 in the NHL. That's why they are where they are. We should have hired Nill 11 years ago. Not only that.s but despite good depth they find ways to PLAY their young talent.

It helps you keep everyone that you drafted for cheaper though.

Also helps you trade for Rantanen and sign him for 12 million flat when a comparable winger is about to hit the market and got for 13+ but get the same take home pay.
 
Both have better third lines

Luosterainen-Lundell-Marchand
Marchment-Steel-Seguin
McMann-Domi-Patches/Holmberg

Also both have #1 dmen. Maybe multiple.

And all of their starts aren't bitches.
