I forget which idiot posted it (it was either Zeke or leafman) but marner and Matthews’ dom defensive ratings in the playoffs are lol and so so indicative of the issue here.

They are both elite defensive forwards with a dom d rating of ~3 and go up to 7.5+ in the playoffs.

That’s lol. When your payroll is built around 4 forwards you can’t afford to have them go into defensive shells in the playoffs. They’re not playing their game at all.

Combination of that plus not having an elite offensive d getting the majority of of his icetime with them. Nate Mack wasn't Nate Mack before Makar. Mcdavid wasn't playoff Mcjesus before Bouchard. Creating those odd man situations when things get tighter by adding a 4th forward is sneaky underrated.

He did not play. The point is a simple one. Having an elite offensive d makes things easier offensively for the forwards and it would be nice if the leafs acquired one. The point wasn't to say that m&m aren't choking bitches.
