Hockey players don't think like that.

They see a good team and think it will last forever.

Once Leon signed it was locked in that McDavid will sign. His two best friends are signed long term, his junior coach is his coach, his agent is the president.

But most importantly he will do the good Canadian thing and sign with the team that drafted him.

It's like us Habs fans with Crosby. I could give you a ton of reasons why it would make sense for him to come to Montreal but at the end of the day he's a Penguin for life and it's 99% certain he never leaves.

If he doesn’t extend this summer, he’s leaving. And the biggest reason by far that the Oilers are doing what they’re doing is McDavid. Remove him and add him to any competitive team, and that team becomes the instant favorite.

probably, yeah.. but they're still in back to back Cup Finals, and the Panthers are in their 3rd Final in a row. when do you think the Leafs will be doing that
 
I’ve been completely indifferent to which remaining teams win or lose ever since the Leafs got eliminated.

But I’m honestly starting to hope for OilChange to just totally shit-pump the Panthers en route to the Cup, just to put a damper on all the dummies using Florida’s success as an excuse for the Leafs and an argument to “run it back”.
 
Running it back may well be the best option. We don't know what's going to be available out there to be able to just definitively say let's dump Marner. What if all the Panthers resign? If something like that happens, I'm just hopeful they don't go and blow the space on anyone with a pulse and give them term. Just sign some one year guys and take the run at McDavid the next year.
