The leafs have done the thing where they sign a bunch of no risk trash league min guys and have them battle it out and they always seemed to have a shit 4th line. But maybe that's just them targeting the wrong guys. Many teams are successful with that method.

I don't mind keeping Lorentz but they better get rid of Kampf and Krok to keep that 4th line cheap. 4c at 1.5 is fine, Lorentz at 1.35 is fine, third guy better be league min.

It's stupid for this to be the case, but basically Cowan has to step in and be what Knies was in his first year. The season probably hinges on him becoming an impact player early.

Apart from that, yeah, I agree, and it was obvious, losing Marner was going to hurt bad. People can point to those playoff stats, but that is an elite player we're now without, and nothing but garbage to replace him other than Cowan potentially.

Danza is another x factor. I like acquisitions with some upside. Roy has no upside but whatever, that's a legit 3c. Plenty has to go right for them to be as good as last year but I suppose it's not impossible if danza and Cowan really are great.
