Around the League 2019-2025 Edition

I’m not sure that applies to Marner, cause he always wanted his cake and eat it to…..he wanted all the accolades, money, captaincy, media focus of being THE top star in Toronto, but simultaneously blames the heat he got for not living up to being a good enough second fiddle, as part of the reason he wanted out.

Yeah, 100%. Not only did Marner want all that, but he felt that it was his by rights. That the organization and the entire fanbase owed it to him, and that they were cheating him out of it when any of it wasn’t freely given to him.

While at the same time, he was monumentally thin-skinned and resentful about any criticism or repercussions that came from his actions off the ice, his lack of personal performance on it or the absence of team success. Any of that was perceived as a totally unfair personal attack on him and his family.

If he dislikes criticism, I would suggest skipping the game against the Leafs in Toronto next year.

Mind you, It would be way more effective if the fans simply remained silent after his "video tribute".

Given he's from Toronto, it's ironic he was never a fit here. You can't be as thin-skinned as he is. Willy has the best personality for this market.
I use to laugh when Marner would go out of his way to tell everyone "We have no idea what is being said. We don't listen to any of it". Because obviously he was more than anyone listening to it.
He is more a fit in a southern market.

I honestly think he might. Wouldn’t put it past him at all to come down with a case of the sniffles and skip his one road game to Toronto next season.

If he does come though, the organization should skip the video tribute altogether.

"We have no idea what is being said. We don't listen to any of it". rapidly became "We are Gods here".

A big part of the cultural difference between the NBA and NHL is the "be the man" mentality in the NBA. For most of the last 50 yrs, everyone has wanted to be the man, be the leader of a team, etc and there really can be one per franchise. We had a brief moment in time where a few super teams had more than one but we've even seen that repair itself recently. It's baked into the culture of basketball. There can only be one guy taking the final shot. Everyone wants to be that guy.

That mentality is more or less beaten out of minor hockey players from a young age.
Mitch wanted to be the man

At least in thought.

Is there a knob u have slobbered more on than Willy’s?

Pretty hilarious that the leafs finally get a bunch of generational talent, and they're all money hungry selfish loser bitch cunts. Michael Nylander was known to he the most money hungry, difficult negotiator of his era. Willy was no different really, but being next to Mitch made him look like an angel.

Mitch will have every opportunity to rack up points & rewrite the "playoff choker" narrative now that he's in the Pacific division. The same blanket of illusion that covers the Oilers.

And they are due to get paid right around COVID.
