Around the League 2019-2026 Edition

I can very much believe Frank stumbled onto something correct here.

It could very well be as serious as he thinks, cause yanno, the concept of hiring Mike Babcock was always batshit.

Not if McDrai and Hyman are behind it and actually for it.

This is a woke matter more than a hockey matter. All we need is a Trans player on the oilers to help this whole story triangulate perfectly.

Since when does the NHL and the PA have to approve a team hiring a coach? I feel like this just got taken for granted - every coach hire can just be vetoed?

I imagine if a team wanted to hire Bill Peters there would be a similar level of investigation.

There should have been one for Quenneville.

Or, no investigations, just ban these fucking people and stop letting billionaire moron owners think they can do whatever they want.

There is a code of conduct that the PA and NHL has agreed to. Babcock likely breached that with Columbus but the PA let it go when Babcock was willing to walk away. They want to do the investigation if he's coming back. It's not necessarily about approving him, just formalizing what he did wrong and pushing forward the appropriate remedies for his action with the league.

Now, those actions might come with a ban from the league if the actions were bad enough breaches, but you have to do the investigation first.

The oilers are not the entire 700 members of the PA. He should be allowed to coach them and they can fail together.

Eh, all of the oiler players have labour rights, not just the few that ownership cares enough about to consult on coaching changes.

If Babcock violated established codes of professional conduct in Columbus, he needs to face whatever penalties are approved of by the agreements between the league and PA. He doesn't get to dip out on accountability just because he walked away from the job he was doing when he committed the infractions.

Especially...fucking especially when he is going to spend the next 24-36 months standing in front of cameras talking about what makes good men, accountability, and all the rest of his folksy bullshit. Fuck him, he should have to face the music for what he did.

We also have no idea how the conversations between the owner/gm/player even took place.

Most guys would feel uncomfortable telling their owner no, if asked if they were okay hiring a certain coach, especially with a teammate in their ear eager to suck the new coach's dick.

The fact an owner feels the need to ask his players about a coach should be enough of a red flag to never fucking hire him

The NHL was going to investigate him after Columbus but Babs walked away so they didn’t.

So now the PA asked them to complete the investigation if he’s coming back.

The oilers can still hire him in the meantime.

If players have made allegations, the NHL should insist the NHL investigate no matter what - not stop the investigation and cover it up if they agree to resign.
